The ArcelorMittal Foundation, in partnership with the KwaZulu Natal Department of Education and the national department of Science and Technology, opened its third Science Centre of Excellence in the Madadeni, Amajuba District, KwaZulu Natal on  14 September 2012.

The Newcastle-Madadeni Science Centre supports all high schools in Madadeni, Newcastle, Osizweni, Blaauwbosch and as far as Dannhausser, with focus on six schools for double contact education.  The centre also offers early childhood development programmes for Grade R to Grade 3.
